If you have questions about your data

Why do we collect your data?
We take your phone number to fulfil your request that a member of the international team call you back.
We take your email address to communicate with you when we are unable to contact you by phone.
We take your first and last name so that we can address you correctly and ensure that we have a unique record of you in our systems.

How your data is held
Your personal data is held within our CMS system, ‘Contensis’, hosted for the university by Zengenti Ltd in the UK, and Sharepoint, our document management system, hosted by Microsoft.

We may also store your data in Student CRM, hosted by Data Harvesting Ltd in the UK, our email communication platform so that we can contact you by email.

Your data will be accessed by staff employed by the Marketing and Communications department who manage and send out related communications, and by staff working in country who log into our systems – these are subject to data sharing agreements to safeguard the data.

Where is your data held?
All data is held within university systems based within the UK.

Some of the personal data we process about you will be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the UK. This may be the case where, for example, it is processed by staff operating outside the UK who work for us or for one of our suppliers, or where personal data is processed by one of our suppliers who is based outside the UK or who uses storage facilities outside the UK.

In these circumstances, your personal data will only be transferred where the transfer is subject to one or more of the ‘appropriate safeguards’ for international transfers prescribed by applicable law (e.g. standard data protection clauses adopted by the European Commission, adequacy status or with your consent).

How long we will keep your data?
We will retain your data for a period of up to two years.

Legal basis for holding your data
By filling in this form you have asked us to contact you personally, therefore we are contacting you with your consent.

Whilst we are not holding your data on the basis of consent, you are free to decide that you do not wish to hear from us at any time.

If you no longer wish to hear from us email internationaloffice@brighton.ac.uk and we will remove you from our systems or via the preference links provided in emails that we send you.

There is no statutory or contractual requirement to provide your personal data to us, we are processing it in order to facilitate your request that we contact you.
